Haifa Film Festival
The 23rd annual Haifa Film Festival will take place
this year from September 27th to October 4th. One
of this year’s special guests is French actress
and director Sophie Marceau. Marceau will present
"Trivial" ("La Disparue de Deauville,"
France, 2007), the second film she directed, where
she stars with Christopher Lambert, who will join
her on the visit to Israel. Haifa is Israel's oldest
film festival and focuses on Mediterranean cinema.
The festival has two competitions: the Golden Anchor
for Mediterranean cinema and the Fipresci-Haifa prize
for first and second-time films. This year’s
festival will boast around 150 features, all of which
are Israeli premieres. “Disengagement,"
Amos Gitai's new film starring Juliette Binoche, will
open the festival and the final film in the festival
will be Michael Winterbottom's much talked-about "A
Mighty Heart," based on Mariane Pearl's memoir
of the life and death of her journalist husband Daniel
Pearl, who was murdered in Pakistan.
