Jerusalem Film Festival

After the doors were shut for an entire year, the Jerusalem Cinematheque will return to its regular location just in time for the Jerusalem Film Festival. This year’s festival in the newly renovated cinematheque, once again brings together hundreds of local and foreign films, and will run from July 5-14. Over a week and a half the festival will screen a variety of shorts, documentaries, and feature films. This year Biblical Productions has a film competing in the Wolgin competition for Israeli cinema, called “Citizen Nawi” the screening will be held on July 6th at 2:15, so if you have an extra 2 hours we recommend you stop by. Throughout the entire week events will be held around the city including special seminars and screenings. For more information check out the festival website:

“Machlohet 2007” Dance Festival at the Suzanne Dellal Center

Over ten weeks this summer, the Suzanne Dellal Center, Israel’s leading dance center will be hosting a festival called “Machlohet 2007.” 58 dance performances will take place from June 28th to August 31st, featuring the best Israeli artists and performers. This jam-packed festival is essentially a catalog for current Israeli dance, featuring tens of performers, dance troupes, and choreographers, and will give an indication of where Israel dance stands today. The shows are made up of an eclectic mix of styles, including modern dance, eastern dance, flamenco, dance and performance art, and experimental dance. The complex and fascinating performances mixed with other visual arts, are sure to make this festival worth while.

Classical Music on the Sea of Galilee

For one weekend in July Villa Melchett will be hosting outdoor classical concerts with a breathtaking view of the Sea of the Galilee. The events will begin at 8:30pm with local gourmet food and wine for sale and the concerts will begin at 9:30pm. Each night has a different theme:
July 5th – “All about Bach” – an evening dedicated to the works of Bach, including a special concert where a jazz trio will perform his works
July 6th – Latin Classical – with guest singer from Brazil, Ana Singer
July 7th – Music from fairytales – two orchestras will perform on one stage

AICE Australian Film Festival 2007

If the Jerusalem Film Festival did not suffice your appetite for fascinating foreign cinema, several cinematheques around Israel will be hosting an Australian Film Festival from June 25 – July 14. This annual film festival features a number of acclaimed Australian feature and documentary films. The opening film is the multi-award winning 'Jindabyne', directed by Ray Lawrence. Other films include 'Ten Canoes', 'Hunt Angels', 'Unfolding Florence', 'The Bet' and 'Suburban Mayhem'
