Filming in Mount Zion

The western hill of the Old City is called Mount Zion. This area acquired its name in the Middle Ages and is different from the Mount Zion found in the bible. It is considered the site of King David’s burial, and the location of the Last Supper. There are several interesting sites to film at in the Mount Zion area.

The Room of the Last Supper
The room of the last supper was built by the Crusaders in the 16th century. The beauty of the room comes across in the rare and stunning turquoise color found throughout the window design. This is a good location for productions related to the life of Jesus and Christianity.

Dormition Abbey
This church is built on the site believed to be where Mary lied asleep for the last time. Built in the early 20th century, the church’s tower offers wonderful views of the city.

Protestant Cemetery
Many well-known figures from the 19th century are buried in this cemetery. One of the most famous people buried in the Protestant cemetery is Oskar Schindler. From inside the fascinating cemetery you can get some good shots of the western part of the city and the City of David.

David’s Tomb
Although there is debate as to where King David was actually buried, David’s Tomb on Mount Zion is considered his burial site by some traditions. This stone cave-like structure, built during the crusader period, contains a large tomb and attracts many worshipers.
