| Approximately
twenty minutes from Jerusalem, overlooking Bethlehem, is
Herodium - the remains of a spectacular fortified castle
built into a mountain. Herodium was one of the palaces of
the man who ruled Judea in the name of Rome - King Herod
the Great - and it was to him that, according to the New
Testament, the Three Magi, or wise men, came out of the
east, saying: “Where is he that is born King of the
Jews, for we have seen his star in the east. We are come
to worship him.” When King Herod heard these things,
he was deeply troubled, and gathered all the chief priests
and scribes together to demand that they tell him where
the Christ would be born. And they said to him: “In
Bethlehem of Judea. For it is written in the Prophets.”
The site of the Herodium is very impressive and is a good
location for filming.
