| Mount Tabor,
located in the lower Galilee in the eastern part of the
Jezreel valley, had great strategic significance in earlier
times. The mountain is mentioned several times in the Old
and New Testaments. Christians believe that the miracle
of the Transfiguration of Christ took place on this mountain.
It is also believed to be the site of the battle between
Barak and the army of Yavin mentioned in the Old Testament
(Judges 4-5). Today a Franciscan church stands on the mountain.
Built in 1924, this Roman Catholic church was designed by
Franciscan architect Antonio Barluzzi. There is also a modest
Greek Orthodox church at the site but it is rarely open
to the public. For film crews, you can get an excellent
shot of the Jezreel valley from this location because of
its high altitude. If need to film in Megiddo, we recommend
you film both location on the same day because they are
close to one another.
