| Mount Ebal,
located to north of Nablus, is a mountain with biblical
importance. Rising 3077 feet (900 meters) above sea level,
Mount Ebal is an interesting location to film. The main
attraction at Mount Ebal is what is believed to be Joshua’s
alter. Archaeology Professor Adam Zertal is the driving force
behind this discovery. Click here for audio and video of
Prof. Zertal describing his discovery of Joshua's Altar

Mount Ebal is mentioned several times in the Old Testament.
When the Jews first returned to the Land of Israel under
Joshua's leadership, they built an altar to God at Mount
Ebal near Nablus (Shechem). Mount Ebal is mentioned in Deuteronomy
when the Israelites are instructed by God to split into
two groups, one was to stay on Mount Ebal to pronounce the
curses, and the other went to Mount Gerizim to pronounce
the blessings.
The mountain is one of the highest peaks in the West Bank.
Today Mount Ebal is ideal for filming shots that have an
ancient biblical feel.
