| The Church of
St. Peter in Gallicantu is an impressive church located
on the eastern slope of Mount Zion. It was constructed in
the 1930’s, and built on a site Catholics believe
was once the palace of Caiaphas, where Jesus was held before
his trial. The name, Galli-cantu, given to the church by
Crusaders, means cock-crow in Latin, and there is a golden
rooster protruding from the sanctuary roof. The church has
a charming character - inside the sanctuary there are giant
mosaics of New Testament figures, and outside there are
an abundance of trees surrounding the church, and a wonderful
view of the City of David. At the lower level of the church
you can find ruins from the second temple period, and stairs
that many Christians believe Jesus walked on prior to his
crucifixion. This is a location to film that captures Jerusalem’s
unique charm.
